One full day touring all highlights of Sapa, two days trekking, 7 hours each day, through the remotest region of Sapa District, you will enjoy much the wonderful scenery dominated by terraced paddies and some well protected part of Hoang Lien Son nature reservation, meet tribal people from all five minority groups and witness their unique way of life. Staying over night in bamboo hut of the Red Dao amidst wild nature is also a lovely experience. The breathtaking mountain scenery and the colorful tribal market are highlights of Sapa although the conditions are very basic. Get off the beaten track and walk through villages where ethnic minorities are very poor but still have interesting culture. Here is a chance to explore and experience yourselves.

8.00 pm: We depart ODC's Sales Office to Hanoi Railway Station to catch the night train (soft sleeper with air conditioning) to Lao Cai.
Day 1: Sapa-Lao chai-Ta van-Ban ho. (B/L/ D)
5.00 am: Arrive in Lao Cai and be transferred by shuttle bus to Sapa, which gives yours eyes a massage with the endless blue sky and colorful terraced paddy field. The road is curved around the mountain and you will just go from one surprised to another. The further you go, the closer you are to the sky and to nature.
On arrival, you will stop by our office and leave your luggage and possibly take a shower in our partner hotel’s waiting room.
7.00 am: Have breakfast at a local restaurant.
9.00 a.m: take 7 km by jeep to Lao chai, the first part is on the road but we soon turn to the right and walk on a small path down the valley to the Muong Hoa River along Y Linh Ho valley and from here lead to the Black H’mong village Lao Chai. There we are experiencing the richest traditional culture of Black H’Mong people in the region. The trekking route offers a breathtaking view of vegetable gardens and rice terraces with green mountains rising above. There will be time for visiting with local families and learning about their traditional fiber processing.
10.00 a.m: After this you continue to Ta Van village (1.200 m) to visit Zay people. Zay is a fairly small minority group of about 38.000 people who live mainly in the mountains in Northwest Vietnam. Ta Van is a small village set within a picturesque valley not far from the northern Vietnamese mountain resort of Sa Pa. The area is renowned for its colorful ethnic minorities, and Ta Van is home to two such groups.
12.00: Picnic Lunch by the side of the river.
1.00 p.m: The bus will pick you up to transfer 12 km long. Spend time to enjoy the picturesque scenery along the way, a mountainous area of stunning natural beauty and diverse ethnic minorities.
1.30 p.m: We trek down the hill, enjoy the fantastic open views in Ban Ho the most beautiful valley in which we spent a night on the bamboo house of Tay people. Ban Ho is worth the somewhat difficult journey to get there, as the village rewards visitors with stunning views of unspoiled sites and an opportunity to discover the daily activities of the ethnic people Tay.
4.00 p.m: Walk out of the Lavie Stream in the scenic village Ban Ho, more than 26 kilometers away from the famous resort town of Sapa. The water was fresh and cleans in the stream which ran from rocks and hills where a few minority groups live.
Young citizens of Lao Cai Province Vietnam and foreign tourists often trek to Ban Ho to indulge in the pristine Lavie Stream, enjoy the sweet sound of running water from the Ca Nhay Waterfalls and other natural attractions of the tranquil village.
We stay overnight with a local family in Ban Ho and have our dinner here.
Trekking distance: 12 km. 5 hours trekking, 3 villages.
Day 2: Ban ho-Nam toong-My Son-Thanh phu- Ban ho-Sapa (B/L,_)
8.00 a.m: After breakfast you trek 2 km (40 minutes) up to the Red Dzao village at Nam Toong, the Red Dao people originated from China and migrated to Vietnam starting around the 12th or 13th century and continuing until the early 20th century. The majority migrated into Vietnam during the Minh dynasty, due to drought, failed crops and the pressures of Feudalism in China.
9.00 a.m: You keep descend to the valley where locates My Son village of Xa Pho minority, one of the smallest group ethnic in Northern Vietname with population is just about 4000 individuals living in North Vietnam, who basically live on hunting, gathering and slash and burn agriculture till recently.
12.30 p.m: After an hour visiting the Xa Pho dwellings, we walk to Thanh Phu village of Tay minority. The Tay people live a sedentary life in large village and farming rice and other food plants intensively. They built large wooden houses on stilts and well organize their villages and here lunch will be prepared in a local school. It is interesting to spend time talking with the teachers and playing with children, teaching them some English. They are very keen to learn new things.
1.30 p.m: Lunch in Thanh phu then trekking to Ban ho where you will return to Sapa by Jeep.
3.00 p.m: Check in Hotel in Sa Pa. Relax and dinner at hotel, overnight in Sa Pa.
Trekking distance: 15 km, 6 houus trekking, 3 villages.
This trek is relatively trouble-free though the trail can be quite slippery if it rains, so good footwear is recommended
Day 3: Sapa – Lao Cai – Hanoi (B, L, D)
8.00 a.m: After breakfast, take a walking tour of Sapa for a visit to the busy market where Red Dao, Black & Flower H'Mong, Tay and other ethnic minority people converge from the surrounding countryside to sell their silverware and handicrafts, vegetable, bamboo shoot, mushroom, medicinal herbs and souvenirs…
Tip from ODC:
At your free time, you could go up to Ham Rong peak where you are able to experience a stunning vista over the charming Sapa town. This is a great chance for some unforgettable photos! This is recommended for the good weather afternoon only (Entrance fee is not included).
1.00 p.m: Have lunch at local restaurant.
The rest few hours in the afternoon is for freshen up, packing and rest before leaving Sapa for Lao Cai station to take the overnight train back, which arrive in Hanoi early next morning and ends the trip.
6.00 pm: Bus departs ODC's Office in Sapa for Lao Cai.
7.00 p.m: Dinner at Lao Cai station.
8.20 p.m: Night train back to Hanoi.
5.00 a.m: Tour ends at Hanoi Railway Station.
