Explore this beautiful natural lake located in Ba Be National Park, where a dramatic landscape and authentic culture, it is only 250 km from Hanoi. After careful review, we would like to offer a 2 day trip to Ba Be Lake for those who love exploring nature combined with local culture with a schedule that does not rush you. Within 2 days you will be able to enjoy sightseeing to beautiful ethnic villages in the region around the national park. This will be via an easy ride trek from the local village where you are having your home stay. There will also be a tranquil boat trip on Ba Be Lake and the River Nang to view romantic and imposing landscape.

Tour itinerary: 

Day 1 : Ha Noi - Ba Be Lake (L, D)

We depart at around 7 A.M in the morning from Hanoi and drive to Ba Be National Park. On the way we make several stops wherever you want to take photos and visit beautiful sights and villages along the way. We arrive in Ba Be Lake late in the morning. We have lunch on the Babe lakeshore in a local restaurant., After lunch we go a boat trip for 3 hours to visit Ba Be Lake and row kayak at pelu bay, have dinner and stay overnight in a local Tay minority family in their traditional wooden stilt house.

Day 2: Bo Lu Village - Ha Noi (B, L) 

After breakfast we go past Ba Be forest, you can discover spectacular rivers, deep valleys, natural caves and undulating mountains. On the way, we stop at Huama cave to see one of the most biggest cave in Vietnam, you can compare with Phong Nha – Ke Bang. Then drive back to Ha Noi. On the way, we also pay a visit to the Thai Nguyen Minority and Culture Museum where we can learn something about the culture and traditions of the different minority groups in Vietnam. Have lunch in a local restaurant on the way. We arrive in Ha Noi at about 6 P.M and the car will droop you off at your hotel.

The landscapes of North Vietnam are of legendary beauty, including mountain covered with vegetation, both on land and at sea (Ha Long Bay). Farther inland, the mountains are also home to an incredible mosaic of mountain people from diverse backgrounds, who have installed over multiple waves of migration from southern China, fleeing the Chinese expansionist push. We will meet these people on the mountain trails and on the markets in a region bordering China, the beautiful enigmatic rock formations, among which are ed rice terraces and villages. We first discovered on foot and by boat on Lake Ba Be, around which people live H'mong, Dao (pronounced Zao) and Tay. Then we will cross the limestone from the Upper Tonkin Cao Bang, Dong Khe up and That Khe, through a landscape of great beauty, inhabited by populations Tay, Nung and Dao. We will then explore by boat the famous Ha Long Bay 

Itinerary:

Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Be (-/L/D) 

In the morning, ODC Travel’ tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel around 7:30 and transfer to Ba Be Lake is situated in Bac Kan province which is 240 km northeast of Ha Noi Capital. Today we visit Cho Chu prison which was built in 1942, captured many Vỉetnam revolution politicians (Việt Cộng). We arrive in Ba Be Lake early in the afternoon, take a rest, have dinner and stay overnight in a local Tay minority family in their traditional wooden stilt house

Day 2: Ba Be – Pac Ngoi (kayaking, trekking) (B/L/D) 

Breakfast at homestay. You and your guide must say "goodbye" to the Cash Dao people. Go through trail to visit Nam Dai village then go down the forest to visit Dau Dang waterfall which is within two provinces Bac Kan and Tuyen Quang. Lunch in restaurant, then boat trip tour up the river to visit Puong cave where inhabits over 1000 bats with 18 generals and famous with many stalactite and stalagmite. The boat will go on the Nang river which runs through the cave into Ba Be lake. After visiting the An Ma temple, you will return the lake-shore restaurant. Stay in the home-stay.

Day 3: Ba Be – Cao Bang (B/L/D) 

After breakfast we go past Babe forest, you can discover spectacular rivers, deep valleys, natural caves and undulating mountains. On the way, we stop at Huama cave to see one of the most biggest cave in Vietnam. It can compare with Phongnha – Kebang cave. On the way to Cao Bang we stop for lunch in a local restaurant, continue to Ma Phuc pass then Cao Bang town, tonight we sleep in Quang Yuen hotel **

Day 4: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc (B/L/D) 

After breakfast, Leave Quang Yuen we drive to visit Ban Gioc waterfalls, the highest and most spectacular in the area. Enjoy an imposing scene of Ban Gioc waterfalls then visit Nguom Ngao Cave. Return to Cao Bang

Day 5: Cao Bang – Lang Son – Halong (B/L/D) 

Have breakfast at hotel continue your trip to Lang Son with many stop over on the way: visit Tay village and meet Tay and Dao people, taking photos, rural market. Arrive in Lang Son, the capital mountainous visit Tam Thanh Cave and Nhi Thanh Cave. In the afternoon we transfer to Ha Long in Quang Ninh province, ranged as one of the wonder of the world by les Merveilles du monde, a book published in France. After dinner you will pay to visit night market or Halong dancing club. Overnight in hotel *** 

Day 6: Halong – Hanoi (B/L/-) 

Early in the morning, embark a wooden boat for cruise in Halong Bay (6hours). Visit some magical grottoes and relax in the best scenic beauty of Vietnam: Sung Sot Cave, Titop beach, fishing village and then the boat stop for kayaking, swimming.
Lunch on boat and then disembarking; take a car back to Hanoi. On the way back, visit Dong Trieu ceramic village. Drop off at your hotel upon arrival.

Ba Be Lake - Ban Gioc Waterfall

In the morning, ODC Travel’ tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel around 7:30 and drive to Ba Be . a drive of approximately 150 miles (230 kilometers). Along the way you will pause to visit a Tay minority community, the second largest ethnic group in Vietnam after the Viet-kinhs, mostly living off the cultivation of rice. Continue to Ba Bể National Park for a boat ride along the Nang River, with time to explore Ba Bể Lake, the caves of Puong Grotto, the rapids of the Dau Dang waterfall and tiny Widow Island. You will also visit the stilt houses of the Tay community in Bo Lu Village, where you will spend the night home-stay in Pac Ngoi village

Day 2: Ba Be – Cao Bang – Ban Gioc (B/L/D)

After breakfast, depart for Cao Bằng close to Vietnam’s northern border with China. You will be introduced to the Nung people in the village of Phuoc Sen, a small village famous for the production of farming tools. Like the Tays, the Nungs largely live by farming the terraced rice paddies that you will see all around as you transfer to Ban Gioc Waterfall, the majestic falls that demarcate the border between Vietnam and China. Then transfer to Ban Gioc Waterfall (85km). Arrive in Ban Gioc waterfall,Spend some time at leisure relaxing and taking souvenir photos as you soak up the sublime atmosphere of Vietnam’s most beautiful waterfall. Day 3: Cao Bang – Hanoi (B/L/-)

After a night at a hotel in Cao Bang, depart for your transfer south to Hanoi. It is a journey of approximately 185 miles (310 kilometers) through vertiginous rice paddies and remote villages. You will get the chance to stop at an ethnic village known for its tobacco production. This is the road less traveled in Vietnam, offering the chance to enjoy some peace and tranquility. There will be a stop for lunch before your hotel -off back in the bustling city of Hanoi.

In the morning, visit French Prison, Son La Ethnology Museum. Then transfer to Muong Lay. On the way, stop for taking photos, visit some villages of Black Thai, and find out about some customary practices people here. VisitTuanChau Market, Pha Din Pass (1300m). 
Have lunch in Tuan Giao and continue to Muong Lay. Check in hotel upon arrival.

Day 3: Muong Lay- Sapa 250km 9 hours (B L,D)

Take bus to Tam Duong, enjoy Tinh Waterfall, have lunch in Tam Duong. In the afternoon, transfer to Sapa. Stop to visiting Heaven Gate, the highest stretch of road in Vietnam as well as the provincial border of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces. Enjoy fantastic view over the valley with barbecue of local people. After that, visit The Silver Waterfall is located about a half hour from Sapa town which offers stunning views over surrounding mountains and lush forests belonging to Hoang Lien National Park. You are advised to stop by a farm for a cup of tea and talk with people to understand their local life. Free time for walking around to discover Sapa town on your own, enjoy night market. Visitors can also join “Sapa Love Market” ( if it is Saturday).

Day 4: Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Cat Cat (B L,D)
The day is devoted to a beautiful hike through the breathtaking scenery of Sa Pa valley. Start by road that descends in the wake of the street Cau May (6 km) En route, admire the rice terraces hidden behind mist of the morning, a truly awe-inspiring sight.

Follow a small track and cross MuongHoa River and pass well-tended rice terraces on your way to the Black Hmong village of Lao Chai. Continuing through the colorful rice terraces you will reach the village of Ta Van Giay. As you continue your trek along the MuongHoa River you will cross a small suspension bridge, roughly 2km from the settlement. Here you can discover a fascinating collection of rock carvings. These engravings depict some beautiful images of man, stilt houses and some beautiful decorative patterns. After taking a rest, car is ready for your journey back to Sapa town for dinner and accommodation.

Day 5: Sapa-Bac Ha-Ha Giang. (B L,D)

Starting from Sapa, you will first visit Bac Ha, enjoy an easy trek to Ban Pho village, visit some houses of Mong Flower and visit the old castle of the former H’mong King. Having Lunch in Bac Ha.

In the afternoon, We set off on a haft of day journey through Sin Man and Hoang Su Phi to Ha Giang town. The rough but scenic route traverses a dense jungle before crossing over a pass and dropping down to Sin Man. Along the way we may encounter the Nung Ing, Tay, Red Dao, Dao Ao Dai, La Chi and Co Lao, just some of the many hill tribe groups who have settled in the area.

Day 6: Ha Giang-Dong Van-Meo Vac. (B L,D)

Starting from Ha Giang, you will stop in Quan Ba District to visit the Bo Y minority village, this area is wonderful weather around year, then process passing Sky gate where you can visit sky, Fairy Mountain, hand weaving village. Break in Yen Minh town. Continues to Meo Vac town, visit Dao minority house and we have chance to view Nho Que river with Ma Pileng poin, view ancient valley from the top. After that we go to Sa Phin village to visit former Meo King palace.

Day 7: Meo Vac-Bao Lac-Nguyen Binh-Ba Be lake. (B L,D)

Today, the journey takes you through the rolling hills and the picturesque scenery to Ba Be National Park.

Roads are bumpy and zigzagging through the mountains. But the journey is more than rewarding. Meet the locals and learn more about the life and culture of the Hmong, Dao, Tay and Nung ethnic minorities who make for the main population in this region. Surely, your presence will attract the locals’ attention as this part of the country still receives very few visitors. Depending on road and traffic conditions, we arrive in Ba Be by late afternoon or early evening.

Day 8: Ba Be lake. (B L,D)

A day tour of Ba Be Lake, take a boat on Ba Be Lake, visit Puong grotto, Dau Dang waterfall, Window Islet and swimming. Then trek to Pac Ngoi village and explore the daily life of Tay. Dinner and saty over night at local home in Po Lu village.

Day 9: Ba Be-Lang Son-Ha Long. (B L,D)

Breath of the Highland



This exciting trip covers most interesting places worth visiting in Northern Vietnam. Start to visit Mai Chau, a fantastic view of a mountainous area then to Dien Bien Phu complex to get to know the famous victory of Vietnamese soldiers and people against invaders. Trekking to discover Sa Pa will let you enjoy the wonderful land full of spectacular scenery.

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau (-/L/D)

Arrival in Mai Chau, take a boat along the Ma River (3 hours), then trekking to visit the White Thai. Have diner in the village.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Son La (B/L/D) 


After breakfast, trekking to Mai Chau valley, visit Nhot and Na Phon village of Thai people. Then transfer to Son La (185km). On the way, stop over for taking photos and visit a suspension bridge and Back Thai village. Arrival in Son La, check in hotel.

Day 5: Lai Chau – Sapa (B/L/D) 


Transfer to Sapa (180km). On the way, visit H’Mong village and a suspension bridge. Stop - over at Hoang Lien Pass for taking photos and admiring the beautiful view of Hoang Lien Son Mountain. Visit Heaven Gate, Silver Waterfall and Tram Ton Pass. Arrival in Sapa, check in hotel.

Day 4: Lai Chau –Tam Duong- Sapa (B/L/D) 120km 

At the morning, take bicycle to discover some villages of Thai, Zay…Then take bus to Tam Duong, enjoy Tinh Waterfall, have lunch in Tam Duong. In the afternoon, transfer to Sapa. Stop to visiting Heaven Gate, the highest stretch of road in Vietnam as well as the provincial border of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces. Enjoy fantastic view over the valley with barbecue of local people. After that, visit The Silver Waterfall is located about a half hour from Sapa town which offers stunning views over surrounding mountains and lush forests belonging to Hoang Lien National Park. You are advised to stop by a farm for a cup of tea and talk with people to understand their local life. Free time for walking around to discover Sapa town on your own, enjoy night market. Visitors can also join “Sapa Love Market” ( if it is Saturday).

Day 5: Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Cat Cat (B L)
The day is devoted to a beautiful hike through the breathtaking scenery of Sa Pa valley. Start by road that descends in the wake of the street Cau May (6 km) En route, admire the rice terraces hidden behind mist of the morning, a truly awe-inspiring sight.

Follow a small track and cross Muong Hoa River and pass well-tended rice terraces on your way to the Black Hmong village of Lao Chai. Continuing through the colorful rice terraces you will reach the village of Ta Van Giay. As you continue your trek along the Muong Hoa River you will cross a small suspension bridge, roughly 2km from the settlement. Here you can discover a fascinating collection of rock carvings. These engravings depict some beautiful images of man, stilt houses and some beautiful decorative patterns. After taking a rest, car is ready for your journey back to Sapa town for dinner and accommodation.

Mai Chau 4-day trek



Mai Chau is a mountainous area of outstanding natural beauty, inhabited by a Thai and H’mong ethnic minority groups. This trip offers a great combination of cultural expedition and trekking. We trek for three days through the spectacular scenery, visit remote and stay overnight in local homes where we have the chance to get to know these hospitable villages. From the mountainous region of Mai Chau, we travel back to the nation’s capital, Hanoi.

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Hang Kia Village

Pick up at your hotel at 8 am and leave Hanoi for Mai Chau, the beautiful gate way to the mountainous area of northern Vietnam. On the way we will have a short stop for refreshment.

Mai Chau nestles in the mountainous regions of northern Vietnam, south west of Hanoi in Hoa Binh Province. The valley of Mai Chau is inhabited by a community of one of Vietnam’s 52 minority groups, the White Thai while the upper lands of Mai Chau are inhabited by the H’mong minority group.

Upon arrival in Mai Chau we will pick up our local guide and continue driving to Xa Linh Village, where we will have our lunch in a H’mong house before setting off on a beautiful trekking in the afternoon. From here we will not use our car until the last day. After lunch we will begin our trek on the village’s road and then walk on dirt path used by the locals. After 40nims we will reach Tra Day Village, home to a small community of Black H’mong minority people. From the Tra Day village we have two options for trekking route to reach Hang Kia, where we will stay overnight. The easier route with rocky path running through another H’mong village. The harder route take more time to do with trail uphill through jungle and dirt path though terraces.

We will reach Hang Kia around 5pm. Hang Kia is a small and scenic valley, which is home to a group of Flower H’mong minority people. Tonight we will stay overnight with a H’mong family. While our local guide cooks dinner we can take shower or stroll around the village. Dinner around 7.30 pm. Before going to bed we will treat our feet with herbal foot massage, which you do by yourself with ATV guide’s instruction.
Day 2: Trekking from Hang Kia to Van Village

After breakfast in the house we will say goodbye to the family and begin an exciting trekking day. Right after the village we will walk on jungle trail for one hour. The trail could be a bit wet due to the dense trees that keep sunlight away. After that we descend the hill passing farm and terraces. The scenery is stunning with mountains, terraces and expansive valley. During the trek we will some breaks for snack, rest, and photographing. After crossing a small river we reach a village of White Thai minority group, where we have lunch in a local house. After lunch, you may wish to have a short nap in the house.

In the remainder of the day we will walk on village road to reach Van Village, a beautiful village of White Thai minority people. The road runs zigzag along the valley and through lots of scenic village. As you walking through these villages the locals may try to invite to come to their house and have dinner with them. Tonight we will have dinner and stay overnight in a Thai family. We will eat and sleep on the bamboo floor as it is the traditional way. Again, our local guide will cook dinner for us while we taking shower or having a pre-dinner drink. At the meal time the host will welcome us with home made whisky. Before going to bed we look after our feet with herbal foot massage.

Day 3: Trekking from Van Village to Buoc Village

After breakfast we say goodbye to the family and begin 3-hr trek in the morning to reach Buoc Village. The path will runs uphill and down hill through bamboo forest, terraces and farms. On the trek we may see farmers working on their farms. Around 12 pm we will reach Buoc Village, another scenic village of White Thai minority people. We will have lunch in local house and take a short nap if you wish. In the afternoon, we will enjoy 2-hr leisure trek around the village. Weather permitting, at the end of the day we could enjoy the cool water of the stream nearby the homestay.
Again, dinner will be cooked by our local guide. Foot massage before bedding time.

Day 4: Trekking to Van Mai – Transfer to Hanoi

After breakfast we say goodbye to the family and enjoy the last trekking along mountain foot to reach Van Mai, where we will meet our car and driver for a short transfer to Pom Coong Village for lunch in a local house. After lunch we will head back to Hanoi. Return to Hanoi around 5pm. Tour ends.
